The best thing to do was to fix all 6 of them up but every one was all gung ho to throw Appy and Pound under the bus to save their own school, and because of that we all lost our schools.

    Re: Board of Supervisors Tonite?

it seems to the rest of the population that the best solution was to close the schools in the worst location and with the smallest population, and build new schools at two locales to ease on travel time, athletics consideratoin, etc...

ill never understand how two schools at one location that creates all sorts of travel time is a better solution than on two separate ends to reduce travel time and size in one place.

i just cant figure it out.
i understand the financial considerations, but is this really the best solution?
i dont think the powers in charge spent enough time really deciphering the best solution. either way, im not sure this is the right plan of action

They already own land at Powell Valley and at the Vocational school. This has nothing to do with money, it is a political agenda.

so its not even cheaper to build the moronic 2-1 idea?

You wont even get the satisfaction of voting the current representatives out of office. The board of supervisors and the school board do not want anybody to have any ownership or identity in the school in which serves the youth of the community that you live in. I don't support this plan but I hope it works, if not we will be the laughing stock of the world and that is something that I do not want. I stated this on the OTC but I really feel like they need to make one of the schools a magnet school.

A magnet school would boost our education while providing parents a school that is well equipped to meet the needs of their gifted child. We currently do not have this in the county and are sponging off MECC and UVa-Wise.

Political? Probably more financial, as in from whose close buddy is the land going to be purchased from IMO. That's how lots of things have been determined around here in the past....just follow the money to get the answers. Seems to be a recurring trend in government dealings.

If the City does come along I would think the athletic facilities at JIB and JJK would probably be the selected due to close proximity along with some type of practice fields actually constructed at the new main campus to help limit travel off campus as much as possible.

In a perfect world, everyone would get what they want, but that's just not possible. I personally like one of the separate neutral sites models best, but this may be the best we can hope for -- at least something appears to finally be possible. I don't know if it will work or not, but I'm hoping & praying that it will.
......and I thought truth was universal. Silly me......

This guy just keeps on proving the point of how we get stuck with a crap idea.

This is not why we ALL lost our schools, Appy and Pound were gone...regardless. Do you not understand that? The fact you fail to realize, is if Appy, Pound and St. Paul would have got on board, using some common sense, long ago, then we would ALL have 3 new schools close to home by now, instead of this disaster waiting to happen 2-on-1 crap.
